Learn how to fine-tune your dungeons using Mythical Maps’ Dungeon Options. This guide covers everything from naming your dungeon to selecting visual themes, grid types, map sizes, layout options, and advanced settings to enhance your tabletop adventures.
Name – Enter the name of the dungeon here. If left blank, Mythical Maps will generate a random name that fits with the Theme or the creatures that inhabit the Dungeon Map.
Visual & Themes – Here are the available options on what the map will look like.
All the Themes are categorized under Type > Theme > Variation. The Type of map is the main category that the Theme belongs to, it is used to help organize all of our themes. The map Theme is what Mythical Maps will generate as the setting. The Variations are any subsets of maps that the Theme may have such as, Webbed, Overgrown, or Ruined. Not all Themes have the same Variations.
- First, select a Type of map; Dungeon, Cavern, Urban, etc.
- Then select a Theme from the dropdown.
- Then select a Variation, if there are any available. (Optional)

Map Size – Select what size your would like the map to be.
Small: One-shot or 1 short game session. ~3-6 rooms
Medium: ~1-2 game sessions. ~5-8 rooms
Large: ~2 game sessions. ~7-10 rooms
Huge: ~3 or more game sessions. ~9-12 rooms
Custom: It depends! For this option we added a slider that will allow you to customize how many major areas you would like.
Layout Options – Here, you can choose the preferred arrangement of map areas. While the layout is influenced by map size, the generator will strive to create a design that aligns with your selection.
Random: A truly randomized layout, any shape is possible.
Cross: Creates a layout with one main intersection, often forming a “T” or “+” shape.
Clustered: Generates more compact and often rectangular maps.
Linear: Minimizes intersections and arranges areas linearly from the start to the boss.
Branching: Makes two distinct paths that split away from the start of the map.
Continuous: Tries to loop areas together; defaults to a linear structure if not possible.
Dead Ends: Generates more complex maps that often lead to dead ends.
